Which Debenhams stores are closing and when?

In the wake of the news, the department store has launched a massive clearance sale, which has led to "exceptional" demand online. You can read more about the massive crowds and virtual queue here.

But which Debenhams are closing and when will it happen? Here's everything we know so far.

Which Debenhams stores are closing?

Debenhams has not revealed which of its 124 shops in the UK will close, but if a deal cannot be reached, it is expected all will have to cease trading. It will put 12,000 jobs at risk.

There are many Debenhams department stores across Wales, including Cardiff, Newport, Carmarthen, Llanelli, Wrexham, Llandudno and Bangor.

Following the announcement shoppers in Swansea told WalesOnline the closure of the anchor store at the Quadrant Shopping Centre would be "devastating." You can read more about what they had to say here.

For now, Debenhams will continue to trade through UK stores and online to clear its current and contracted stocks.

What has Debenhams said?

Geoff Rowley of FRP Advisory, joint administrator to Debenhams and Partner at FRP, said in a statement: "All reasonable steps were taken to complete a transaction that would secure the future of Debenhams.

"However, the economic landscape is extremely challenging and, coupled with the uncertainty facing the UK retail industry, a viable deal could not be reached.

"The decision to move forward with a closure programme has been carefully assessed and, while we remain hopeful that alternative proposals for the business may yet be received, we deeply regret that circumstances force us to commence this course of action.

"We are very grateful for the efforts of the management team and staff who have worked so hard throughout the most difficult of circumstances to keep the business trading."
