Which countries have highest Covid death rates as cases rise in UK?

Covid restrictions are just a memory for the UK now, but the effects of the virus are still gripping the nation.

Social distancing, shielding and mask wearing was all completely ditched by the UK government in February, 2022, freeing the public to make their own informed decisions on the situation.

The nation then came together in celebration during the Platinum Jubilee and other everts such as Glastonbury, making the Covid-era seem like a half-remembered dream.

However, cases are back on the rise now that we have entered the summer months, with last reports putting the figure up to 1.7 million, though deaths are on the downward spiral.

According to the Office of National Statistics, Covid deaths in the UK actually decreased from 335 to 309 in the week ending June 17, 2022.

Deaths involving Coronavirus accounted for 2.5% of all deaths during that week, a drop in the ocean when compared to wider causes of deaths.

Since March 2020, when Coronavirus first gripped the nation and lockdowns left us isolated, around 180,000 people have died with Covid overall.

There have been an estimated 22.8 million cases, with 19.1 million of them being in England alone.

There is no set governing body analysing Covid death rates internationally, making the data difficult to determine.

It also depends on how the data is broken down, as population sizes, public density and health care quality are also major factors to consider.

However, Johns Hopkins University & Medicine have compiled the data to breakdown countries death rates and current Coronavirus situations.

For example, according to its data which was last updated on June 30, 2022, Mexico has the highest mortality rate of 5.1%, with the next closest being Brazil with 2.1%.

When considering deaths per 100,000 population, Peru tops the list of deadliest countries, with 647.47.

It is followed by Bulgaria with 536.11, Hungary with 482.87 and Bosnia and Herzegovina with 481.87.

The UK meanwhile, is tracked at 266.51, putting it well in the top half of the list.
