Which College Basketball Teams Will Be in EA’s NCAA College Basketball Video Game?

We know that a new College Basketball game is coming out. And we also know that when it doesn’t come out, it will likely have an impact on its foremost competitors on the market. But, as of right now, many details surrounding EA’s re-entry into the college basketball market are still unknown. But there are breadcrumbs available for people to follow should they be interested enough.

For one, we know EA is aiming for a 2028 release, which puts the first iteration of College Basketball three years away from now. This gives the publisher plenty of time to ensure that development isn’t rushed. We also know that the game is only contractually obligated to have three releases over the course of six years, meaning that a shift away from yearly releases isn’t off the table.

While all of these are interesting and important details, they are strictly technical questions about the release of College Basketball and the business surrounding it. But what’s actually going to be in the game? Or, rather, who?

There is no shortage of college basketball programs in the United States, so the possibilities are nearly endless. But a recent report seems to confirm which of those programs will be in the game.

All Division I Men And Women Teams Will Be In College Basketball

In a massive report done by Matt Brown of Extra Points (h/t The Athletic), it was confirmed that, similar to how EA Sports approached the revival of the College Football series, College Basketball would strictly be focusing on Division I programs. Only this time, both men’s and women’s teams will be included.

According to Brown, sources indicated that most of the Division I teams in college basketball have agreed to be in the game. When combining the men’s and women’s teams, this would total over 730 teams being present in the game.

However, the exact number of teams included isn’t public knowledge, and many teams have yet to sign on the dotted line to be in College Basketball when it drops in 2028. However, these universities have only a limited amount of time to make that decision as they reportedly only have until July 18 to come to terms on a licensing agreement.

It’s early days, and we’ll be sure to keep you all updated once teams finally start getting confirmed. But for now, it looks like there will be no shortage of teams when College Basketball finally drops.
