Which Christmas songs do people listen to most when driving?

As the country gears up for five days where we can create a bubble and visit family and friends over the festive season, many will be heading out in their cars, and quite literally driving home for Christmas.

UK holiday cottage company, Lyme Bay Holidays, has analysed over 60,000 songs using Spotify data to find the song most listened to on the drive home for Christmas, but do the findings match up with your favourites?

The queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey holds the top spot, but surprisingly Chris Rea’s driving inspired song doesn’t even make the top ten.

Second place is the ever popular ‘Last Christmas’, and with a modern twist Ariana Grande is in third.

Fourth place is Michael Bublé, who has previously been dubbed the ‘soundtrack to Christmas’. Bublé appears a total of 8 times in the top 50, which isn’t surprising given that his 2011 Christmas album has recently been named one of the top selling of the decade.

Top 10 most listened to songs on the drive home for Christmas:

  1. All I Want for Christmas is You, Mariah Carey
  2. Last Christmas, Wham!
  3. Santa Tell Me, Ariana Grande
  4. It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Michael Bublé
  5. Mistletoe, Justin Bieber
  6. It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Andy Williams
  7. Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, Brenda Lee
  8. Jingle Bell Rock, Bobby Helms
  9. Do They Know It’s Christmas?, Band Aid
  10. Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!, Frank Sinatra

Ben Matthews, Owner of Lyme Bay Holidays said: "Christmas is such a joyous time of year, and we’re thrilled people can travel once again to see their loved ones. We hope that listening to this playlist en-route will provide some much-needed Christmas cheer in what has been a difficult year for most."

As Christmas is fast approaching, it’s time to get your cars back on the road and your festive playlist sorted – but did these match up with your favourites?
