Which AAF signee has the best chance to make Miami’s 53-man roster?

The Miami Dolphins made it official yesterday, adding seven (seven!) players from the now defunct Alliance of American Football league. The crop of players includes several with legitimate game experience in the NFL. Miami’s seven additions are as follows:

  • San Antonio LB Jayrone Elliott
  • San Antonio RB Kenneth Farrow
  • San Antonio LB Tyrone Holmes
  • San Antonio OT Jaryd Jones-Smith
  • San Antonio DL Joey Mbu
  • Birmingham OL Michael Dunn
  • Memphis WR Reece Horn

It’s impressive to see Miami take on so much upstart talent, even if the majority of them never see a snap in a Dolphins uniform. What is there to lose? Nothing, especially considering the cost.

With that in mind, which of these seven players has the best chance to make the 53-man roster? That would unquestionably be pass rusher Jayrone Elliott.

Three Yards Per Carry’s Chris Kouffman did a wonderful job the other day on highlighting exactly what Elliott brings to the table as a rusher. First and foremost, he’s got speed.

That already sets him apart from the rest of Miami’s edge pass rush. The Dolphins will assuredly address the position in two weeks at the NFL Draft, but with a veteran DE group of Charles Harris, Jonathan Woodard, Tank Carradine and Jeremiah Valoaga, it’s hard to envision a speedy rusher like Elliott not on the roster.
