Where you can take your real Christmas tree for recycling

It might just be the saddest part of the year - untangling your dainty bobbles, unwinding the fairly lights and hurriedly eating the last of the chocolate decorations before they go off as you watch the last of the sad brown pines fall from your tree.

But once you've gone to all that trouble, what are you supposed to do with the thing?

Well, firstly you can dispose of your Christmas tree yourself by cutting it up and placing it in your brown bin for collection.

If your tree is too large for your wheeled bin, the good news is Glasgow residents can recyle their Christmas tree for free at drop-off sites throughout the city.

Until January 19 you can dispose of your trees at the following places:

  • Pollok Country Park, Burrell Car Park
  • Alexandra Park, off Alexandra Parade, car park next to the golf course
  • Kelvingrove Park, Kelvin Way, grass area opposite the bandstand

It may have lost its festive cheer, but Glasgow City Council can use your Christmas tree to make wood chippings and mulch to use in our public parks and gardens. Hooray!

Alternatively, trees can be taken to any of the council household waste recycling centres.
