Where you can connect with nature in Newcastle to support your mental health

The World Health Organisation stated that mental health was going to be the next pandemic.

And we are now starting to see the cracks in the system and the impact lockdown has had on our wellbeing.

During these difficult and isolating times lots of us turned to the outdoors to find our inner peace. This is why the Mental Health Foundation made nature it’s theme for this year's Mental Health Awareness Week.

Lockdown gave people the time and space to appreciate the smaller things in life. Online communities started appearing, such as “The Self-Isolating Bird Club'' where people share their daily nature anecdotes.

The Mental Health Foundation states that nature is “central to our psychological and emotional health.” They also found that “45% of us reported being in green spaces had been vital for our mental health.”

Newcastle has 33 parks and 61 allotment sites which were transferred from Newcastle City Council to Urban Green Newcastle.

Jesmond Dene is a spot hailed as a haven of peace for people in Newcastle.
