Where will you live?

Video from Visit Brussels.

The European Institutions have offices across Europe, but chances are that when you join you will be relocating to Brussels.

Brussels

Brussels is a compact city of just over a million people. It is a diverse, international city where people from all over Europe and the world come to work. Brussels is the home of the European Union and there are also representations from NATO, UN, international businesses and lobby groups.
The city has many up-market shopping areas as well as vibrant street markets. There is also great nightlife, with a wide choice of acclaimed restaurants, clubs and bars. Meanwhile, the city is a major centre for the arts and offers more than 80 museums, as well as a number of cultural and sports clubs.

Best of all, Brussels is ideally located in the heart of Europe, with several of the continent's capitals accessible within a couple of hours.

Luxembourg

Although most EU jobs are based in Brussels, Luxembourg also hosts significant institutions such as the European Court of Justice.

The beautiful old city is a UNESCO heritage site, which is a reflection of the range of museums and cultural attractions located there.

While small, Luxembourg boasts everything you need for an excellent quality of life - restaurants, bars and cafes - all within easy reach.

It is also easy to take days out to Luxembourg's stunning, and often underrated countryside.

All the support you need to relocate

The institutions have Welcome Offices which are there to assist you once you have received a job offer, and can provide wide-ranging information about your new location and building your new life - whichever city you are located in. In particular, they can assist you in finding accommodation, checking rental contracts and organising an Information Day to help your partner settle into life in a new country.

Both Brussels and Luxembourg are very child-friendly cities, with excellent local, European and international schools. The Welcome Office can put you in touch with crèches, playgroups and other facilities, so please do contact them when you and your family start planning your move.
They also provide extensive support to help you and your family learn a relevant language.

See what our people say

"Brussels is small enough to be manageable and you get to meet lots of people of different nationalities."

"It's a unique place to live, because it's so international."

"You get to meet people from all walks of life, and on three consecutive nights you could easily go to see an English play, a Spanish film and a Swedish concert!"

"For such a small city, Luxembourg has many bars and restaurants that would suit anyone's tastes or budget, plus excellent links with the rest of Europe. Weekends can be spent cycling the Mosel river - tasting amazing locally produced wine!"
