Where will Titans OC Arthur Smith call the plays from in 2019?

After the departure of former offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur to the Green Bay Packers, the Tennessee Titans chose to promote tight ends coach Arthur Smith to taken the position in favor of continuity.

Ahead of Smith’s first year at OC for the Titans, there’s a lot of questions surrounding just how he will run things.

One of these questions is in regards to how he’ll be calling the plays.

According to Titans team reporter Jim Wyatt, it’s fairly likely Smith will experiment between the booth and the sideline during the preseason to come to a decision on what works best for him and the team.

LaFleur did this, and ultimately decided to do his job from the booth.

“I suspect Arthur will weigh his options before deciding,” Wyatt wrote. “A year ago, as a first-time playcaller, Matt LaFleur worked from the booth and the sideline during the preseason before deciding he’d rather be in the booth to call games. I suspect Arthur will do a similar experiment before making a decision.”

There’s a lot of excitement about working under Smith in the upcoming season from the players, including returning veteran tight end Delanie Walker.

“I would say he’s a great hire,” Walker said earlier in the year. “The guy has worked on defense, offense, and he’s been in every room. He knows the game, he studies his butt off and I know he is going to be a great OC. I am going to do everything in my power to make sure I can provide for him and make sure he is successful.”
