Where will Michigan State RB L.J. Scott get drafted?

One of the most intriguing running backs in the 2019 NFL draft is Michigan State’s, L.J. Scott. In his four years as a Spartan, Scott never had a single season of at least 1,00 rushing yards. However, he is still expected to be selected in April’s draft due to his overall power.

According to Pro Football Focus, Scott had 1,902 yards after contact in his career and forced 113 missed tackles. He is one of the best running backs between the tackles.

Unfortunately for Scott, he’s just not a great athlete. He didn’t run at the NFL Combine, likely trying to “hide” his lack of speed from scouts. While that is certainly a concern entering the NFL, there have been a lot of running backs with his physical profile who have been selected in the NFL.

Scott’s lack of athleticism and passing game skills (just 43 total receptions) will likely force him to be a Day 3 selection. However, expect his name to come off the board somewhere between the 4th-6th round. Don’t be surprised if Scott becomes a productive running back in the NFL in the mold of Jordan Howard of the Chicago Bears.
