I think it’s fair to say that Netflix has been knocking it out of the park with some incredible drama offerings recently. And, now that we’ve all well and truly finished Sirens, there’s a new series captivating the masses — The Survivors.
The Survivors is an Australian whodunnit murder mystery which follows a man named Kieran Elliott (Charlie Vickers) who returns to his hometown of Evelyn Bay to help care for his ailing father. Upon his return, with his partner Mia Chang (Yerin Ha) and their young child in tow, his trauma from an incident 15 years prior is brought to the surface.
You see, when Kieran was a teenager, his older brother Finn (Remy Kidd), his friend Toby and Mia’s best friend Gabby (Eloise Rothfield) died whilst trying to rescue him from a cave during a storm. While Finn and Toby’s bodies were found, Gabby disappeared. Since then, Keiran has felt the weight of the tragedy
The new miniseries is based on a book of the same name by Aussie author Jane Harper, who also wrote the original texts for the film adaptation of The Dry and Force Of Nature.
With The Survivors taking off on Netflix, new crime fans might be fanging for a visit to Evelyn Bay while Aussie viewers might be hit with a wave of déjà vu.
So, to cure your curiosity about where this murder mystery takes place IRL, here’s where Netflix’s The Survivors was filmed.
Is The Survivors‘ Evelyn Bay real?
Unfortunately for fans, Evelyn Bay is not a real place.
Speaking to Netflix Tudum, showrunner Tony Ayres pointed out that author Jayne Harper “made it up out of a number of different places”.

Instead, The Survivors was filmed in Tasmania‘s Eaglehawk Neck, which is about a 77km drive from Hobart.
Reflecting on The Survivors set, Ayres said Eaglehawk Neck has “such a gothic landscape. It’s cliffs and sea caves and this pounding ocean. It really is so spectacular.”
“What I love about [it] is that big emotions play out in this big landscape. That’s why Tasmania works so well — it’s at an emotionally operatic scale,” Ayres shared.
That being said, I reckon Eaglehawk Neck fits the description of Evelyn Bay extremely well. Thankfully, it’s not Summer Bay ‘cos the vibes would’ve been diabolical!!!
