Where was Line of Duty series 6 filmed? Locations for the BBC drama

Filming of the new series of Line of Duty started last year, but it wasn't long before the coronavirus pandemic shut things down.

Lucky for us, though, it resumed with safety protocols in place and series six starts on Sunday, March 21.

The strict safety measures meant that a lot of the filming was done on set over in Belfast this time around rather than on location in real buildings, said creator Jed Mercurio.

Let's hope we still get to see the mezzanine floor spy level, from where AC-12 spot their impending victims of intense interviews, from.

Mercurio told Belfast Live: "We have taken lots of precautions for cast and crew. We have filmed on studio sets which is a departure from previous series where we have shot in an actual working building. The reason why is because we can ventilate the set and social distance our cast and crew. We have had rigorous measures in place during the shoot."

Mercurio also revealed that there's a new location featured in the new series, the home station for Kelly McDonald's DCI Joanne Davidson.

"One of our main locations for this series is Hillside Lane Police Station," he said. "It’s actually a police station that is mentioned way back in series one – Matthew Cottan served here before he joined Kingsgate station where he was on the same team as DCI Tony Gates."

Since series two, when production moved from Birmingham to Belfast, eagle-eyed fans will have spotted some familiar landmarks in the series including Belfast Central Library on Royal Avenue which has moonlighted as Police Headquarters, and other prominent buildings including Obel Tower and St Anne’s Cathedral.
