After Life is a Netflix series from comedian, actor, director and writer Ricky Gervais looking at how we cope with grief.
It follows Tony, a local reporter at The Tambury Gazette who is struggling to cope with his wife's death. He adopts a new attitude to life, and decides that he's going to say or do whatever he pleases.
Much of the series focuses on his involvement with the local community in Tambury, and the people in it.
After Life, which also stars David Bradley, Penelope Wilton, Ashley Jensen, Tom Basden, Tony Way and Diane Morgan, has just returned for its third season on Netflix.
Is Tambury a real place?
The series is set in the UK so you'll probably recognise a few of the locations – but Tambury isn't actually a real place.
It was made up for After Life, and is inspired by a number of different real locations from across the UK.
The main filming was done in a couple of towns, Bristol, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.
Where was After Life filmed?
Hemel Hempstead
The crew filmed in Hertfordshire in the square. This is where the Tambury Gazette is set. The main building is 48 High Street close to the Old Twon Hall and St Mary's Church.
The businesses you see are all real too including Jordans Antique Centre and the pub.
The Coffee shop which features throughout the series is located in the High Street in Hemel Hempstead.
The street where Tony lives is in Vale of Health, a hamlet with a pond.
Camber Sands
Parts of the series was also filmed in Camber Sands in East Sussex. You may remember from season two where Tony takes his dog for a walk to the beach. Hemel Hempstead isn't near any beach.
Beaconsfield
A few scenes in After Life were also filmed in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. The care home is the Old Town Registration Office, the graveyard is also in the Old Town by St Mary and All Saints Church.
The crematorium from the sixth episode is behind the church.
