The Trial of the Chicago 7 heads into this weekend's 93rd Annual Academy Awards nominated in six categories including Best Picture.
Directed by Aaron Sorkin - the man behind such hits as A Few Good Men and, more recently, Moneyball and The Social Network - the film was originally due to be released in theatres worldwide before plans changed and distribution rights were sold to Netflix as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The film stars a number of familiar faces and prominent actors including Michael Keaton, Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and the Emmy Award-winning Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Its story is based on real-life events. It revolves around seven activists who, after making plans to protest at the Democratic National Convention, are arrested and charged with trying to incite a riot.

Sorkin is said to have written the script back in 2007 with the hopes of signing Spielberg up as director. Coming in the midst of the Writers Strike, Spielberg pulled out citing concerns over the budget.
As well as a nomination for Best Picture, The Trial of the Chicago 7 is also in the running five further awards at this weekend's Oscars, including Best Supporting Actor for Baron Cohen.
