Where to get lateral flow tests as government announces shortage of home kits

The government announced new covid rules for close contacts of Covid cases this week.

People who come in contact with someone who has Covid-19 should take a lateral flow test every day for a week.

Just a day after the new rules, lateral flow tests ran out of stock on the government's website.

When the MEN tried to order some free tests on Monday morning with a Manchester-based postcode, an error message popped up saying "There are no more home tests available."

The message added: "Sorry there are no more home tests kits available right now. Try again later. Or you can go back and try book a test site appointment instead".

If you're struggling to find a lateral flow test right now, the government website is not the only way to get your hands on one.

The NHS offers an online service that allows you to search for lateral flow tests based on your town, city or postcode.

After typing in your location information, the service will show your nearest pharmacy with lateral flow tests available.

The government has set a target of giving every adult a booster jab by the end of the month over fears of a 'tidal wave of omicron'.

Boris Johnson, in a pre-recorded address to the nation on Sunday evening, said Britain 'must urgently reinforce our wall of vaccine protection' as he set the new deadline of jabbing everyone over 18 by the new year.
