People have been urged to get tested before heading out to celebrate the New Year, but a shortage of available tests is making it difficult to get an appointment.
Boris Johnson said people should enjoy the New Year in a 'cautious and sensible way', adding: “Take a test, ventilation, think about others – but above all, get a booster.”
However, after the national booking service showed there were no PCR tests available for the rest of the day, December 29, anywhere in England, time is running out for party-goers to get their test results before their celebrations.

Most people will need to wait until tomorrow, December 30, to get a test.
But as some people have reported waiting longer than 24 hours for their result there's a chance the results may not come through in time for New Year festivities.
However, there are a small number of walk-in centres in Greater Manchester where you can get your hands on a PCR test today.
Whilst most boroughs can only offer Lateral Flow Tests, a local walk-through testing centre is available in Bury for anyone over three to take a PCR test.
The site at Chesham Fold Road can be accessed by car or on foot between 9-3pm Monday to Friday, except Bank Holidays.
Appointments for a test at the Mosses Centre on Cecil Street can usually be made online, but the site does not have any availability until Friday, December 31 apart from the odd cancellation.
Over in Oldham, there are several testing sites offering PCR tests, with walk-ins accepted at three sites across the borough.
All three are open between 8am-6pm today, tomorrow, and Friday, and whilst appointments are encouraged, there is capability to accommodate walk-ins.
The tests will take place at the Honeywell Centre on Hadfield Street, Hathershaw, Peel Street in Chadderton, and at Failsworth's Higher Memorial Park.
