Gold is a mid to late-game resource in Subnautica 2. You’ll need to craft the Advanced Wiring Kit, which in turn is required to craft upgrades for the Tadpole, the sea vehicle that makes exploration faster and risk-free.
However, unlike Titanium and Silver, you won’t notice Gold deposits near your Lifepod. You can only find it in the red, high-temperature region of Subnautica 2, which you can’t explore until you acquire the Heat Tolerance Adaptation.
Acquiring it is a multi-step process that requires curing the Angel Comb roughly 200 meters northwest of the Lifepod. Make sure to craft a Sonic Resonator first, which you’ll also need to scan and break Gold deposits later.
Once you have Heat Tolerance, start heading towards the dauntingly tall red structure northeast of the Lifepod. Below, we have marked some of the best Gold farming spots you can find in the high-temperature zone of Subnautica 2.
Best places to farm Gold in Subnautica 2
You can find the first Gold farming spot in Subnautica 2, roughly 350 meters northeast of the Lifepod. As soon as the water turns yellow and you notice these glowing red Radiator Coral, slow down and head deeper.
It shouldn’t be tough spotting Gold deposits, thanks to their unique ring-like structure. You will find a couple of these nestled at the bottom of the seabed or in the sides of the brown rock formations.
Since it’s pretty deep down, keep an eye out for Oxygen Tunics, as you will run out of oxygen sooner or later. To make things more difficult are several Marrowbreach who are surprisingly aggressive in this area. Instead of just biting, they will maul you around and deal significant damage, so make sure to stock up on flares to distract them. It’s also worth bringing additional batteries for the Wakemaker.
If you are running low on these items, fret not, as there are a couple of caves in this area where you can farm Gold without any hostile interferences. Just make sure to keep an eye on your oxygen meter.
You can find two such caves over 500 meters southeast of the Lifepod. Head into either of them to find a decent amount of Gold deposits.
Subnautica 2 is still in early access, and you don’t need to stock up on Gold just yet, since there aren’t many things you can craft from it. That said, there’s no harm in keeping an eye out for these areas for future reference.
