Where to celebrate Armed Forces Day in Greater Manchester

Servicemen and women will be celebrated on Saturday when Armed Forces Day returns for another year.

Events will be held across the country and in Greater Manchester, which will bring communities together to show their support.

Service personnel have been invited to commemorate the Armed Forces throughout the ages; including troops and their families, veterans, reservists and young cadets.

The dedicated day is set to boost moral among among serving soldiers and signals an appreciation for the work they do for the UK across the world.

If you'd like to show your support, here's a list of events taking place across Greater Manchester:

Tameside

The majority of events will have live music (Manchester Evening News)

The event in Tameside will be hosted in around Victoria Park in Denton.

The event will start with a traditional luncheon and then from 1pm, the focus will move to a bandstand in Victoria Park with live music.

There will be a range of family-friendly activities including a climbing wall, giant inflatable's, and face painting.

Hyde

If you can't wait until Saturday, then Greater Manchester Police are hosting an event on Friday at 11am to show their support. The flag will be raised at Ashton Police Station.

Salford

Commencing at 10.30am, Salford’s military and community parade will travel from Duke’s Drive, Monton, along Parrin Lane to Winton Park.

The parade will officially launch the Winton family day festival at Winton Park, which runs from 11am to 4pm. The day includes fun for all the family with entertainment on stage and mini fairground rides for children.

Bolton

There will be a short service at Victoria Square at 11am at the War Memorial, to which veterans, serving personnel and standard bearers are invited.

There will be wreath laying, live music, competitions and 'interesting things to see for all the family.'

From 10am to 4pm, the Town Hall will be displaying World War artifacts and will be providing information on ancestors who were a part of the military.

Manchester city Ccentre

Manchester's centre has a big line-up of activity taking place from 11am.

There will be a march at St Peter's Square, the Lancashire Artillery Band are set to perform, and there's even a chance to sit in the cockpit of a helicopter.

You can also try out radio communications with the UK's Military Veterans Museum.
