It's 22 years to the day since Leeds United upset the odds in a remarkable night under the lights at Elland Road. David O'Leary's side defeated AC Milan 1-0 in the Champions League group game, bouncing back in style after a 4-0 humbling against Barcelona in their previous European outing.
Lee Bowyer's 30-yard drive was spilled by Brazilian goalkeeper Dida, to give the Whites the three points their performance richly deserved. The Group H clash was played out in awful conditions on a wet and blustery night at Elland Road, but the poor weather didn't dampen spirits both on and off the field.
Dominic Matteo, Olivier Dacourt and Bowyer were among the standout performers as O'Leary's side looked to keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive. The Whites were not overwhelmed by the star-studded opposition that stood before them.

But where are those players today? Leeds Live has taken a deep dive to find out where the starting XI is today.
Nigel Martyn
Nigel Martyn was a long-standing servant at Elland Road and was the only player outside of the Don Revie era to be voted in Leeds United's greatest ever team back in 2006. A falling out with Terry Venables saw the England goalkeeper move to Everton in 2003 where he would see out the remainder of his career.
He would retire in 2006 and briefly held a role of goalkeeping coach at Bradford City but has not returned to the sport since 2009.
Gary Kelly
The Republic of Ireland international spent his entire career at Leeds United and is the only player to make more than 500 appearances from outside the stewardship of Don Revie. He retired from the game in 2007 after 16 years of loyal service to the club.
During his time at the club, Leeds won the First Division in 1992, along with reaching the 1996 League Cup final and the Champions League semi final in 2001. It's unclear what he does with himself following retirement, but admitted in an interview with the club to still being Leeds mad.
Ian Harte
Kelly's nephew Ian Harte would spend eight seasons at Elland Road, before leaving in 2004. He would enjoy a stint in Spain before representing the likes of Sunderland, Reading and Bournemouth - where he would retire in 2015.
Harte helped the Cherries win promotion to the Premier League but was released at the end of the season and is now a football agent.
Michael Duberry
Michael Duberry struggled to break into the first team when he first arrived at Leeds United, but injury problems saw him feature against AC Milan. He would eventually force his way into the side in 2003-04 but would leave the club the following season on loan, joining Stoke City before making the move a permanent one at the end of the campaign.
The former Chelsea centre-back forged a solid career in the English game, as well as a stint north of the border, before retiring in non-league football with Hendon. After retiring Duberry began Made Leaders, a mentoring, coaching and leadership business.
Danny Mills
Once touted as one of the best defenders in the country, Danny Mills would leave Elland Road in 2004 - linking up with Manchester City where he'd remain for the rest of his career - with a number of loan spells sandwiched in between retirement and leaving Elland Road.
Now a pundit and frequently talking Leeds United, the former Whites' right-back is often on the TV screen and radio.
Eirik Bakke
The first of the Leeds United players on this to try their hand at management. Eirik Bakke would move back to his native Norway after calling time on his Elland Road chapter, hanging the boots up at Sogndal Fotball.
The Norwegian took over the reins of the club in 2015 and was still there until 2021, leaving his role with a 45.05 per cent win rate.
Olivier Dacourt
France international Oliver Dacourt broke Leeds' transfer record at the time with a £7.2million move from Lens but his Elland Road tenure would span just three season before moving to Italy. Dacourt move to Roma before winning the Serie A title and Supercoppa Italiana with Inter Milan before retiring at Standard Liege in 2010.
The 47-year-old has followed Danny Mills into the media with appearances on Canal + in France.
Dominic Matteo
Scotland international Dominic Matteo would leave Leeds in 2004 and played for Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City before retiring in 2009. He did briefly return to Elland Road in an ambassadorial role in in 2013, but left the club in 2014 following the sale to Massimo Cellino.
In November 2019, Matteo underwent surgery on a brain tumour, and was declared fully recovered in April the following year.
Lee Bowyer
Lee Bowyer was the man of the moment against AC Milan, even if there was some degree of good fortune around his strike. If you don't buy a ticket, you don't win the raffle.
The midfielder forged an impressive career in the top flight after leaving Elland Road and like Bakke, has tried his hand at management. Bowyer has had a mixed bag of results, winning promotion with Charlton from League One before moving to Birmingham City in 2021. The former Whites midfielder was sacked by the club earlier this summer after 16 months at St. Andrew's.
Michael Bridges
The former Leeds United striker still has a close affinity with the club and is a regular on podcasts relating to the Whites. Michael Bridges has joined a number of his former team-mates with a career in the media.
As for his playing career, Bridges struggled to settle for more than one season at any club, following his Leeds departure in 2005. He would end his career playing in Australia with the Lambton Jaffas.
Alan Smith
The gem in Leeds United's side after coming through the academy, Alan Smith would controversially move to Manchester United in 2004 and was part of Alex Ferguson's title winning side in 2006-07. Smith would sign for Newcastle United in 2007 where he'd spend five years before a career in the lower echelons of English football with MK Dons and Notts County.
He had a short spell as caretaker manager of Notts County in 2017 but reverted to the role of player-coach following Kevin Nolan's appointment as manager. Smith reportedly lives in Florida working with male and female youngsters as a coach at the XL Soccer World Academy.
