Where the investigation into hit-and-run on Deansgate is up to

A man arrested after a hit-and-run on Deansgate has been released under investigation.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was hit by a Toyota Prius at around 4.40am on Tuesday.

It is understood the car did not stop following the collision.

Police said the man was left with 'potentially life-changing injuries'.

A man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving; dangerous driving; and failing to stop after a collision.

Greater Manchester Police said the man has since been released under investigation.

A large section of Deansgate was sealed off in both directions on Tuesday.

In a statement following the incident, GMP said in a statement: "At around 4.40am this morning (August 27) police were called to reports of a collision between a Toyota Prius and a pedestrian on Deansgate, in Manchester City Centre.

"The driver left the scene following the collision.

"The pedestrian - a man who is believed to be in his 20s - has been taken to hospital with potentially life changing injuries."
