Ajax will have about 2,000 of their supporters in London for tonight's game against Chelsea – even though Uefa have banned them from attending Stamford Bridge.
The Dutch club were not allowed to sell tickets following crowd trouble during the 3-0 win against Valencia at the Mestalla last month.
An Ajax spokesman told football.london that they expect their fans to gather in pubs near the stadium to watch the game but they are unaware of specific locations.
"They have heart for the club and want to be close by," manager Erik ten Hag said of the supporters who have travelled to London.
Dusan Tadic, the former Southampton attacker who now leads the line for Ajax, added: “This is a disappointment for us because we are used to having our away fans. They are great and we will miss them.”
Some Ajax supporters had hoped to attend Leyton Orient's EFL Trophy game against Brighton Under-23s as an alternative but that match has now been moved to Wednesday “following the advice of safety groups, including the police.”
Orient had initially said that they would engage with Ajax in an attempt to accommodate them but the visitors insist that no contact was made.
The Metropolitan Police did not respond when asked for comment regarding whether they will put special measures in place to monitor the travelling Ajax fans.
Two weeks ago Red Star Belgrade supporters were banned from attending their game against Tottenham Hotspur but more than 200 of them purchased tickets in the home section leading to a standoff during the game with stewards stepping in to segregate supporters.
Spurs have since banned 48 of their own fans who sold tickets to their Serbian visitors.
