Under the headline ‘taking your tree from bare to barely any branches left,' a post shared on the Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It Facebook group revealed the ideal ratio for baubles and lights relative to the height of your tree.
This suggests a 3ft tree should be decked out with 20 baubles and a string of 50 lights.
It goes on to reveal that a 6ft tree will take 240 bulbs and 50 baubles while really huge trees have been known to feature up to 1,000 lights and 90 baubles.
Meanwhile, Argos has come up with an innovative option for those who are concerned about keeping the lower reaches of their tree away from small hands – or paws.
The store is selling Christmas trees with a bare bottom half and branches starting half way up which are designed for home where children and pets may not resist temptation.
Argos also says the trees, which start at £40, are also a great space-saver, as they can slide in next to furniture.
