Where’s Georgia, Alabama in Paul Finebaum’s new top-6?

If the College Football Playoff were to begin today, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum would put Alabama in over Georgia.

He recently ranked a top-six following Bama’s loss to LSU and had Georgia sitting at No. 5 with the Tide at No. 4.

His full top-6 is:

1. LSU

2. Ohio State

3. Clemson

4. Alabama

5. Georgia

6. Minnesota

There’s two ways of looking at the Georgia/Bama debate.

Do you take Georgia, which has two quality wins and one very bad loss?

Or do you side with Nick Saban and Alabama, who have zero quality wins and one very forgivable loss?

I tend to side with the team who has shown me more against good teams. Georgia has done that twice. Alabama has only had one opportunity to show me that, and though they came back I was not terribly impressed.

Obviously Finebaum’s rankings are technically meaningless in the grand scheme of it all, but could he be helping to get the narrative started that Alabama is deserving of a free pass just because its brand? There are a handful of one-loss teams, and I do not think the Tide are the most deserving of them to be ranked the highest.
