The Cassidy family has been a huge part of Fair City for years as viewers have seen family members come and go in some of the most dramatic storylines in Fair City history.
The family consisting of Juliet O'Connell, Niamh Cassidy, Kira Cassidy, Catriona Cassidy, Gina Cassidy and Sean Cassidy have gone on to live their own lives with some members of the family still a vital part of today’s show.
Niamh Cassidy
Clelia Murphy, who played Niamh Cassidy on the soap for 22 years, began her career in 1996 playing the schoolgirl.
Viewers watched Clelia grow up as her character and saw her start an illicit relationship with her teacher.
Niamh Cassidy gave viewers their fair share of drama as we watched her ups and downs with husband Paul Brennan that saw Clelia leave the show after Niamh fled the country with Paul’s life savings.
In January 2019, Clelia appeared on Dancing with the Stars but was eliminated in the third week.
Most recently, she played the role of Baroness Elsa Von Schraeder in the UK and Ireland tour of The Sound of Music for Bill Kenwright Productions and the role of Ella Young in Danny Brennan's radio drama The Morrigan directed by Marrisa Aroy.
Kira Cassidy
Carla Young, who played Kira Cassidy, has since gone on to star in a short film called Nostradamus and Me as she played the character of Nora in 2004.
The actor was struck by tragedy in 2003 when her sister drowned off the French resort town of Biarritz.
Heather Young was just 19 when the incident occurred while she was renting an apartment near Marbella Plage and decided to go swimming in the Atlantic at 2.30am with friends.
Gina Cassidy
Deirdre Lawless played the character of the Cassidy's mother, Gina. Perhaps one of the most memorable Fair City storylines Gina was killed on her wedding day in a motorbike crash.
The storyline rang true for Deirdre as her youngest son had previously been in a serious motorbike accident and broke his neck.
Thankfully Deirdre’s son Sean recovered with the help of fundraising from her co-stars.
Sean Cassidy
Ryan Andrew, who plays the part of Sean Cassidy on the Irish soap, won the nation's hearts as he was a finalist on the popular show.
He is still a huge part of the Fair City cast and has recently got engaged to her long-term girlfriend, Michaela O'Neill.
