Summertime has finally arrived in the UK, despite the rather inconsistent weather being faced by the country.
Although we have been treated to the occasional warm spell, many holidaymakers will be winging their way abroad for a holiday soon.
If you are looking for inspiration on where to go, figures released by the Civil Aviation Authority have revealed the most popular holiday destinations for holidaygoers from the East Midlands.
The authority looked at the flights out of East Midlands Airport in June, July and August 2018 and the data revealed the most popular holiday destinations.
By far, the top holiday destination for the East Midlands was Spain, with 632,274 flights between East Midlands and Spanish airports.
That is three times more than any other country, and the figure does not include the Canary Islands.
The Canaries came in second in popularity, with 184,157 trips to and from East Midlands Airport.
In third place was Greece with 182,709 trips, Portugal was fourth with 98,080 and Italy was fifth with 81,204.
In terms of individual airports, Palma in Mallorca was the popular destination for East Midlands passengers, with 158,283 journeys made in summer 2018.
Alicante was second with 135,752 trips, followed by Malaga with 102,910 and Faro in Portugal with 98,080.
Nationally, there were 12.6million trips between UK and Spanish airports, not including the Canaries, in the summer last year.
The second most popular was the US, with 6.7million journeys made nationally.
Italy was third, with 5million trips, Germany was fourth was 4.1million trips and France was fifth with 3.9million trips.
