Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly wants Bruno Fernandes to play as a No.10 in his new look team.
The Red Devils are rumoured to be closing in on a move for the Portuguese playmaker despite the club distancing themselves from rumours.
One report in Italy has even gone as far as to claim the player is ready to travel to the UK to undergo a medical and finalise a move for around £63m as the clubs near an agreement.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola , the Red Devils plan to utilise Fernandes behind the frontman and utilise his ability as a goalscoring playmaker.
They are also chasing Lazio's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, with a fee reportedly already agreed with Lazio.
But the two signings are not set to impact upon one another despite both being central midfielders as Solskjaer has clear plans for both players.
The move for Milinkovic-Savic will only go through if they lose Paul Pogba, with the Serbian viewed as a direct replacement to operate as a No.8.
Fernandes, meanwhile, will play at No.10 with Solskjaer reportedly telling Ed Woodward to secure the signing of the Portugal international as a "far more urgent" priority than Milinkovic-Savic.
With Romelu Lukaku still linked with a summer exit, it seems Solskjaer is planning to play Marcus Rashford in a lone striker role with Fernandes just behind for support.
The likes of Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood will fill the wide positions.
If a move for Fernandes does not come to fruition, the No.10 void could be filled by Paulo Dybala, being linked with both United and Spurs as he considers a Juventus exit.
