With thousands of families on Nottingham's social housing waiting list, there is a growing demand for new homes.
From the site of a former school to a waste ground, construction is underway to try to help meet the demand.
One of the latest developments to complete for Nottingham City Homes was in Top Valley in December
Families were able to start to move into the 20 new council homes just in time for Christmas.
The 13 two-bed houses, five four-bed properties and two two-bed flats are built to "high energy efficiency" standards and offer warm, secure and affordable modern homes for Nottingham families on the city council’s growing waiting list.
Here are the latest Nottingham locations where work is underway.
A list of developments for 2021 is also being drawn up.
Top Valley
Work to build 106 new council houses has started in Top Valley.
Nottingham City Homes (NCH) was given planning permission to build the properties on land on Whitcombe Gardens, which is where the former Eastglade School stood. It was closed in July 2007 and demolished soon after.
The 106 new homes include 23 one bed flats, 63 two bed houses and 20 three bed homes as well as open space.
Nottingham company Pelham Architects has designed the site and local construction company Robert Woodhead Limited are building the homes. They will then be managed by NCH on behalf of Nottingham City Council, which will own the homes.
Nick Murphy, chief executive of Nottingham City Homes, said: “This is one of the biggest projects in the pipeline for NCH and the council, as we continue our partnership to create affordable homes for local people on the council house waiting list.
“These homes will offer local people affordable, well-designed and energy efficient homes – places they will be proud to live. As well as these new homes, we are creating open green space and we are adding wider improvements to the area, which will benefit the whole neighbourhood and be an asset to the local community.”
Councillor Linda Woodings, portfolio holder for planning, housing and heritage at Nottingham City Council, said: “We’re really proud to see the start of works on the Eastglade site which, when complete will provide over 100 new much needed council homes for affordable rent.
“Providing homes which are high quality, warm, energy efficient and safe is even more important now than ever as people spend more time at home. It is also important that, as part of the development we are able to provide green and open space, which the whole community can enjoy."
Basford
Construction has started on 17 new council houses which will provide new homes for people in Basford.
NCH will build the homes using their own in-house team of tradespeople, on waste ground off Tunstall Drive, on the Heathfield estate.
The development comprises five two-bed houses and 12 one-bed apartments. All will be built to "high energy efficiency standards" and offer warm, secure and affordable modern homes that will go to Nottingham people on the city council’s waiting list.
The development is expected to be ready to let by spring 2021.
