Where Mason Mount can make a big name for himself in Frank Lampard's Chelsea side this season

Chelsea fans were left very impressed by Mason Mount's performance in the slender defeat against Kawasaki Frontale on Friday.

Making a huge impression under Frank Lampard last season at Derby County during his loan spell at Pride Park, the youngster is going to be involved in the first team for the Blues this season.

The 20-year-old started as a No.10 behind Michy Batshuayi in the first half in Yokohama and he caught the eye with his positive runs as he tried to give Chelsea the lead.

Ross Barkley's introduction at the break saw Mount switch positions as he played on the left of a three behind Olivier Giroud before he was replaced by Christian Pulisic on 65 minutes.

Mount, once again, was very dangerous in that role and Lampard can go into the season knowing that the talented player can play in a number of different positions for the Europa League holders.

Speaking to Chelsea TV after the late defeat, the star has outlined where he can play for the Blues next season if given the chance by the new head coach.

"You've got to show that you can play anywhere," he said. "I feel like I can play in midfield in an attacking role or in a defensive role.

"Showing the manager I can play in different positions that's the main thing. It's obviously a positive for me today."

football.london asked Lampard in his post-match press conference about Mount's performance in Yokohama and the club's record goalscorer hailed his positive display.

He said: "I thought Mason's performance was really good and it was a continuation of how he played for me last year and how he's trained for me since last Friday as he's not been with us long, but his energy and his quality.

"Mason's part of the first-team squad this year and it's time for him. His qualities will improve even more with the qualities around him.

"Everyone knows the hopes I have for Mason and he showed today a glimmer early in pre-season of what we might see this year and going forward."
