Where Manchester United players are heading for October's international break

Manchester United players are preparing to launch into action with their respective international teams during the October break - at Wembley and beyond.

Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford will miss out for England as they continue to recover from injury.

However, the Three Lions will still be heavily represented by those with Old Trafford connections as 15 members of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad prepare to get down to business on all four corners of the planet.

Luke Shaw, Jesse Lingard and Jadon Sancho have been called up by England manager Gareth Southgate.

But what exactly is in store for those three and other United players during the October international break?

Here, we take a closer look at the fixtures Shaw, Lingard, Sancho and others will have to contend with across these next few days.

Brazil

As the devastating Covid-19 pandemic continues to take hold - not only in elite sport, but society as a whole - the impact was felt no more than in South America this September.

Indeed, midfielder Fred was among those threatened with domestic bans for not representing his country.

For now at least, those issues appear to have been addressed and the United player is set to play three games over the next few days; away to Venezuela and Colombia, before a home encounter with Uruguay and United teammate Edinson Cavani.

That showdown takes place at the Arena da Amazonia, Manaus.

October 8: Venezuela (A) - 12.30am

October 10: Colombia (A) - 10pm

October 15: Uruguay (H) - 1.30am

England

A late equaliser from Poland in their most recent game means the Three Lions can no longer put together a perfect record on the road to Qatar, but victories away to minnows Andorra and against Hungary beneath the famous arch at Wembley will go a long way to booking their place.

The first of those fixtures is set to be held at the Estadi Nacional in Andorra La Vella.

You would expect Shaw to start at left-back in both of those matches, while Lingard and Sancho will have to move past other players - not least from Manchester City - to be trusted with offering an important supply line to England captain Harry Kane.

October 9: Andorra (A) - 7.45pm

October 12: Hungary (H) - 7.45pm

France

A change of pace awaits for Les Bleus as they prepare for Nations League action against Belgium.

Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial have all been named in the squad for that outing, from which the winner will go on to face Spain or Italy in the competition's showpiece.

They take on Belgium in Turin before either heading to Sunday's final or third place play-off.

October 10: vs Italy/Spain (N) - TBC

Ivory Coast

Eric Bailly will clock up over 10,000 miles when flying to Malawi, the Ivory Coast and back to Manchester, but it will be worth it if the United defender helps the Elephants pick up six points to strengthen their push to reach the 2022 finals in Qatar.

Portugal

In the first instance, United stars Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes and five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo are set to feature in a friendly against 2022 hosts Qatar.

That will be followed-up by a meeting with Luxembourg at the Estadio da Luz, Porto, on Tuesday night.

Certainly when it comes to the first of those encounters, you would expect the trio to be afforded some rest time and that, of course, is another plus for Solskjaer.

October 9: Qatar (H) - 8.15pm

October 12: Luxembourg (H) - 7.45pm

Scotland

Having sat out a few games at the start of this season due to injury, academy graduate Scott McTominay has now returned to fitness and remains one of the most important players in the Scotland squad.

Already capped 26 times by his country, the United man will be eager to help drive the Tartan Army to a first World Cup appearance since France '98.

Their first clash is against Israel at Hampden Park, before a follow-up trip to the Torsvollur Stadium, Torshavn, is on the cards.

October 9: Israel (H) - 5pm

October 12: Faroe Islands (A) - 7.45pm

Spain

Similarly to Varane, Pogba and Martial, it's Nations League duty for De Gea as Spain take on Euro 2020 winners Italy on Wednesday night at the San Siro; home to Inter Milan and AC Milan.

They will then head on to either the third place play-off or the final of the competition on Sunday.

October 6: Italy (A) - 7.45pm

October 10: vs France/Belgium (N) - TBC

Sweden

A relatively straightforward break awaits for Sweden captain Victor Lindelof - certainly in terms of him only having to travel back and forth to his home nation.

Indeed, the Swedes - without injured AC Milan icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic - are set for a double header against Kosovo and Greece at the Friends Arena, Stockholm.

October 9: Kosovo (H) - 5pm

October 12: Greece (H) - 7/45pm

Uruguay

On course for a Manaus showdown with United team-mate Fred, experienced striker Cavani will, first, get down to business vs Colombia in Uruguay's capital city Montevideo and Argentina at the River Plate Stadium, Buenos Aires.

But will the frontman add to his 53 international goals?

October 8: Colombia (H) - midnight

October 11: Argentina (A) - 12.30am

October 15: Brazil (A) - 1.30am
