Liverpool would be five points off the relegation zone if VAR wasn't in use in the Premier League this season.
That's the findings of a new report by ESPN, who have looked at all 146 matches played so far this season and recalculated the league table with all VAR decisions removed.
The results show that the Reds have had some key decisions swing in their favour thanks to the intervention of the video action replay technology, making them one of the true winners of VAR as the current campaign halts for the winter World Cup.

The analysis shows that without VAR, Jurgen Klopp's side would have dropped from sixth in the table to 12th and would be nearer to the relegation zone (five points) than a Europa League qualification position (six points).
One of the key moments when the review system came to Liverpool's rescue was when Phil Foden's goal for Manchester City at Anfield was chalked off after a foul by Erling Haaland on Fabinho was spotted on a video review. The Reds would go on to win the match 1-0.
Without VAR, the Reds would have also lost the Merseyside derby as Conor Coady's 'goal' for Everton would have been left to stand without the Stockley Park intervention. A 3-3 draw with Brighton at Anfield would also have turned into a home defeat if Mohamed Salah's goal had not been retrospectively award on VAR review after it had initially been flagged offside.
Liverpool are currently 10 points behind regular title rivals Manchester City, but if VAR did not exists the deficit would be as large as 18 points and they would be 21 behind table-toppers Arsenal.
Thankfully ESPN's findings are rendered powerless in reality as the VAR technology very much exists and is likely to be around for many more years to come. Good news for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp at this point in the season at least.
