Where Liverpool rank among best teams of all time as unbeaten European records near

Liverpool are unbeaten in the Premier League so far this season - and have not lost at Anfield since April 2017, when Crystal Palace emerged as victors.

Across the first 21 games of a Premier League campaign, no team has ever accumulated as many points as the Reds have at 61 from a possible 63.

And that incredible form across the past two seasons has been reflected in the latest ELO rankings, which the website describes as an 'estimation of strength based on past results'.

According to their algorithm, the Reds are currently performing as the fourth-best team of all time, behind only Pep Guardiola's Barcelona team of 2012, his Bayern team of 2014, and Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid side of 2014.

The Reds are ranked just ahead of Real Madrid's 1961 side, the AC Milan team of 1993, and Manchester City's team of 2019.

With those levels having been sustained for so long, Klopp's men could be on course to break a few more records too as they chase down a number of European sides.

AC Milan hold the record across Europe's top-five leagues for the number of consecutive matches unbeaten at 58, a record achieved between 1991 and 1993.

Bayern Munich, under Guardiola, are next on the list at 53 matches, achieved while the Catalan was their boss between 2012 and 2014.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are third on the list at 49 games. The Reds are currently on 38 matches, meaning they would break that record, the highest in England's top flight, if they remain unbeaten until April.

As it stands, the Reds are joint-ninth on the list with Real Sociedad on 38 matches, having overtaken Italian side Perugia, who went 37 games unbeaten between 1978 and 1979, after beating Tottenham last Saturday.

Avoid defeat to Manchester United and Jurgen Klopp's side will overtake Sociedad's record - the Spaniards went 38 games from 1979 to 1980.

To beat AC Milan's record of 58 matches, Liverpool would have to stay unbeaten for the rest of this season plus the first five games of the 2020/21 campaign.
