Where Leeds United's chase for a Bristol City flop factors in to their interest in Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah

Bristol City face competition from Leeds United for Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

The Robins have a long-held interest in the up-and-coming 20-year-old but Nketiah's impressive form in pre-season has provoked more questions than answers over his future.

It now looks like the striker will leave the Gunners on a season-long loan this summer and, with the clock ticking down in the transfer market, the Robins were thought to have been leading the way.

Yet Leeds appear to be launching a late bid to take the striker to Elland Road as they rival the Robins for his signature.

Interestingly, though, Leeds' chase of a Bristol City flop could well impact Nketiah's future.

Leeds are also keen on Ryan Kent from Liverpool, who spent the second half of the 2017/18 season on loan at the Robins.

He failed to impress, making just 10 league appearances as the Robins were fined by Liverpool for not playing him enough.

Yet a loan move to Rangers last season has revitalised his career, and Leeds Live report that Elland Road director of football Victor Orta is in advanced talks with Liverpool over a potential permanent deal for Kent.

The Whites need a new attacker as Kemar Roofe's replacement, with the striker set to depart for Anderlecht.

Kent is said to be Leeds' first choice, with an overall fee of £10m having been floated - although an eye-catching amount, the initial cost of Kent would be far lower.

Leeds lack squad depth up front, however, with question marks over a back-up should Patrick Bamford be injured, although Kent can play as a striker.

However, Orta also has close links with Gunners boss Unai Emery, which could well mean Leeds get preferential treatment in a deal for Nketiah, although so many clubs are interested in the Arsenal striker that a loan fee is bound to be costly.

It likely means that Leeds would not be able to bring both Kent and Nketiah to the club, so a deal for Kent could well give the Robins the edge in the chase for Nketiah.
