Where James Bond meets Mr Bean

The claim that Lord Adonis is “now Tory” (Letters, 8 October) is untrue. He remains a member of the Labour party but, following convention, will sit on the cross benches in the Lords in the light of his appointment to chair the infrastructure commission. Creation of the latter was a Labour policy now adopted, without acknowledgement, by the Tories.

• It may be my imagination, but the Tory image-makers’ efforts to give George Osborne a James Bond image seem to result in a character increasingly resembling Mr Bean. Is this a visual metaphor for his policy development or just a coincidence?
