Where is UGA in Kirk Herbstreit’s top six?

College football analyst Kirk Herbstreit released his top six last night during the SMU at Memphis game. The Georgia Bulldogs were the most impressive team in college football this week with a top ten victory over the Florida Gators. The LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Penn State, and Ohio State all had bye weeks. Clemson played a weak Wofford team.

Was Georgia’s effort enough to land in Kirk Herbstreit’s top six? Here’s how Herbstreit ranked the top schools:

  1. Ohio State (8-0)
  2. LSU (8-0)
  3. Alabama (8-0)
  4. Clemson (9-0)
  5. Penn State (8-0)
  6. Georgia (7-1)

These are the same teams that we expect to be in the top six. Georgia’s victories are impressive enough to overshadow the defeat to South Carolina when comparing the Bulldog’s resume to that of Oregon, Utah, and Oklahoma.

Looking at Herbstreit’s rankings, the biggest disagreement the CFP Committee will have with it will be within the top four. With wins over Texas, Auburn, and Florida, the LSU Tigers deserve the number one ranking. Ohio State has blown out each team they’ve faced and have quality wins over Wisconsin and Cincinnati, but their quality of wins isn’t as impressive as LSU’s. The Buckeyes should check in at number two.

Alabama and Clemson is a total toss up for number three and four. The Crimson Tide and Tigers have played similar schedules, which have been extremely easy. The Tigers had a close call with UNC, while the Crimson Tide haven’t played a close game yet. Alabama didn’t look good against Tennessee, but they still managed to win big. Alabama should be number three.

My top six is in the order: LSU, Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, Penn State, and Georgia.
