Where is the second case of coronavirus in Ireland? HSE updates on latest case

The HSE confirmed on Tuesday night that there has been a second case of coronavirus in Ireland.

The Department of Health and HSE confirmed Ireland's second patient was receiving treatment for the deadly virus that is sweeping the world.

To respect patient confidentially the exact location of where the patient is has not yet been announced - the first case was of a student in North Dublin school Scoil Chaitriona which is currently closed for two weeks.

Here's all we know about the second case of coronavirus in Ireland at the moment:

Where is the second case?

The second case of coronavirus, COVID-19, was last night confirmed in the Republic of Ireland.

The woman who had recently travelled from northern Italy, which has seen a large number of recent cases, is suffering from the virus in the east of Ireland.

This case is unrelated to the first, which involved a Dublin schoolchild. That pupil, of Scoil Chaitriona in Glasnevin, remains at a Dublin hospital receiving treatment.

What happens next?

A search is now underway to find anyone who has been in contact with Ireland's second confirmed coronavirus patient.

The Chair of the Expert Advisory Group Dr Cillian De Gascun old Morning Ireland on  RTE Radio One  that work is currently underway to identify people who have been in  close contact with her.

Dr De Gascun added that the risk to any casual contacts is "essentially negligible", explaining that a casual contact is anyone who spent less than 15 minutes face-to-face with the patient.

Health experts are understood to be focused primarily on family and work colleagues of the infected patient.

Is there likely to be more cases?

Dr Holohan, the Department of Health’s Chief Medical Officer, added some isolated cases from abroad are to be expected here but the virus may not necessarily be transmitted in the community as it might be in Europe.

How many people have been tested?

Nearly 400 people have been tested for the virus since January - up from 90 last week. These were all negative except for the now two confirmed cases.
