Where is Storm Lorenzo? Latest updates as Ireland braces for 130km/h winds

Ireland is currently braced for the impact of Storm Lorenzo as strong winds and rain move across the country.

Latest radar shows the eye of the storm 230 miles west-northwest of Co Cork at 4pm Irish time.

And forecast maps are now showing the ex-hurricane moving across the north and west of the country later tonight.

However most areas will be hit, with some places currently being battered by strong gusts as the first winds associated with the storm make landfall.

Strong winds have been reported at Lahinch in Co Clare, but also on the east of the country at Hook Lighthouse in Co Wexford.

Four weather warnings have been issued by Met Eireann as the vortex continues to hurtle towards Ireland.

The national forecaster has slightly altered its Status Orange and Yellow wind alerts, as well as its nationwide rainfall warning.

Cork will no longer be on orange alert but the caution remains in place for Galway, Mayo, Clare, Kerry and Limerick from 6pm on Thursday until 6am on Friday.

Wind gusts will also be slightly weaker than expected, but storm surges will cause damage in these counties.

A warning said: "Southwesterly winds veering westerly will reach mean speeds 60 to 80km/h with gusts generally of 100 to 120km/h, higher in coastal regions.

"Storm surges will produce coastal flooding and damage."

The nationwide Status Yellow wind warning has been shortened.

It will be in place from 9am until 6pm on Thursday, and not until 6am on Friday as previously stated by Met Eireann.

Met Eireann says 100km/h gusts may have “disruptive impacts” across the country.
