Where is Piers Morgan? Good Morning Britain presenter absent following petition to sack him

Good Morning Britain viewers were asking about Piers Morgan's whereabouts after the star was absent from today's show.

Piers has been caught up in a Twitter row following a recent petition to sack him.

The 54-year-old presenter has come under fire recently for his views on gender after he said he was going to identify 'as a penguin'.

He made the claim as a reaction to a BBC film that says there are more than 100 genders and this led to a petition being started to get him fired.

Today, Piers was replaced by Ben Shephard- but viewers should know this isn't a permanent move.

Following suggestions that Piers had been removed from the show by Good Morning Britain producers, the 54-year-old responded to the speculation.

Piers said: "When you say 'taken off air', I think you mean 'has taken himself off air to go lie under a palm tree in Beverly Hills."

Meanwhile, Susanna Reid is also enjoying a break from our TV screens, as Kate Garraway stepped into her shoes.

Last week, a defiant Piers told viewers that a poll to have him removed from Good Morning Britain has actually secured him a pay rise.

GMB producers then began their own Twitter poll asking viewers if he should be fired, with 60% saying 'yes' he should be sacked.

But the dad-of-four has said it has had the opposite effect.

Piers said: "480,000 votes, but here's the thing.

"I think they genuinely think they are going to get rid of me and that's what makes this all the funnier. You are not going to get rid of me."
