Where is Ozark filmed? Where the Netflix series is set and locations you can visit

Netflix ’s popular drama, Ozark, sees Marty Byrde (played by Jason Bateman, relocate his entire family from Chicago to rural Missouri after he gets into trouble laundering Mexican drug money.

You could be mistaken for thinking the picturesque setting is as fictional as the story told from within it, Ozark - or the Ozarks - are very much a real place.

Although the Byrde family relocate to Missouri, the mountains and lakes of the Ozarks can actually be found in four states - Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas.

However, there is some bad news.

Most of the locations seen in the show are actually filmed at Lake Allatoona and Lake Lanier, rather than at the Lake of the Ozarks - but if you fancy yourself a trip to the real 'Redneck Riviera', here are just some of the places you could visit.

The Lake of Ozarks

Here be dragons (Moment Open)

Known as 'The Magic Dragon' due to the resemblance to, well, a dragon, the Lake of Ozarks make for a stunning view.

Actually man-made, the 92 mile stretch of water with restaurants and bars along its edge attracts millions of holidaymakers and tourists every year.

The lake looks great from above, sure - but how many people do you know that spend their entire holiday up in the air?

Why not stay on the ground and sit along the Osage River, which forms part of the Lake, and get a view that's just as good from the ground - especially if you catch yourself in front of a spectacular sunset.

Bagnall Dam Strip

You can walk or drive across Bagnall Dam - the reason the Lake of the Ozarks exist - but the strip is where you'll want to head for those kitsch collectibles and cold treats.

Awash with bars and restaurants, it'd also be an ideal place to take a break and grab some food - Netflix filmed a scene in Stewarts Restaurant, so if you're looking to add a bit of film nerdery to your trip, this diner has to make the list.

The Glory Hole

Named after a famous gold mine near Central City, Colorado, the bar is one of many you can visit during your trip.

This hole-in-the-wall / dive bar is a favourite haunt of many, described by one visitor as "a place where everybody really does know your name."

With beer on tap and karaoke on offer, this seems the perfect place to wind down after a long day taking in the sights.
