HYDERABAD: At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in the city to unveil a 216-feet tall ‘Statue of Equality’ and to take part in the Icrisat golden jubilee celebrations, a group of youngsters organised a protest at Tank Bund displaying banners and placards asking ‘equality for Telangana’.
Some of TRS ministers also attacked the PM on their Twitter handles demanding ‘equality for Telangana.’
The youngsters were seen holding a flexi demanding answers from the PM on jobs, ITIR for Telangana, rail coach factory, turmeric board, Bayyaram steel factory and an IIM for Telangana.
Some of the protesters were believed to be from TRS Vidyarthi, party student wing, and supporters of the party, but the TRS did not comment on their protest officially.
The protest video and photos went viral as ministers, TRS MP G Ranjith Reddy, MLAs and other leaders shared them on Twitter and demanded equal justice for Telangana. The hashtag #EqualityForTelangana was trending at number one position on Twitter in India with 20,000 tweets for a couple of hours during the six-hour visit of the PM.
Using the hashtag, excise minister V Srinivas Goud questioned in a tweet, “When the Union Govt could allocate national status to Karnataka’s Upper Bhadra project, why couldn’t they allocate national status to the Palamuru Rangareddy project? (sic)”
Agriculture minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy in a tweet asked as to why the Centre did not support the agriculture and industrial sectors in state. Chevella MP G Ranjit Reddy said whatever Telangana achieved was all because of the visionary leadership of KCR.
