Where is Clara Amfo? Radio 1 DJ has been off all summer from usual show

Clara Amfo, who runs BBC Radio 1’s weekday mid-morning show, has taken a break from the station this summer.

The 39-year-old DJ and presenter is known for both her TV work and radio work. She has reported from events such as Wireless, Global Gathering, SW4, and NASS festivals.

She first started out as a marketing intern at Kiss FM. But Amfo has since presented for BBC Three, and covered Radio 1’s Big Weekend, T in The Park, and Glastonbury Festival.

The talented presenter also hosted the Brit Awards 2018 red carpet alongside Capital FM’s Roman Kemp.

In 2018, she appeared on Celebrity MasterChef, before being eliminated during the last week of heats.

In terms of radio, Amfo has previously presented BBC Radio 1Xtra’s weekend breakfast show, the Official Chart on BBC Radio 1. The same year, she took over from Fearne Cotton as host of the station’s mid-morning show.

So where is Clara Amfo?

Amfo has taken the summer off as holiday. She was spotted partying at Notting Hill Carnival on Saturday and posted a video to her Instagram story which showed her dancing in a group with fellow DJ Nick Grimshaw.

At the moment, she presents the Radio 1 breakfast show, but in June, it was announced that Amfo would be taking a break over the summer, with Jack Saunders standing in for her.

The station’s summer schedule began on July 3 and will run until September 4.

Saunders took over presenting The Official Chart for Radio 1 in September 2022, replacing Scott Mills. He said at the time: “I can’t believe my name gets added next to the endless list of legends who have presented The Official Chart and to take over from an amazing broadcaster such as Scott Mills is amazing. I can’t wait to get started and put my own imprint on it.”

Saunders first joined Radio 1 in 2018 to present a new music show, Radio 1’s Future and Radio 1’s Indie Show. He then went on to present the BBC’s coverage of Glastonbury for 2022 and 2023.

Saunders also works as a presenter on MTV and is currently the host of the weekly MTV Rocks Chart on MTV Music.
