An academic study has spent three years investigating accents across the region of Greater Manchester, with some of the findings proving to be a little surprising.
The study by sociolinguists at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) threw up some surprises, with areas like Levenshulme and Moss Side categorised as more likely to sound 'posh' in South Manchester.

The study spoke to more than 400 participants to research the ways people from all over the city spoke, with the centre being the most identifiable area with a 'Manc' accent.
But not everyone was convinced with some of the findings, with multiple readers surprised at the results of areas in the south of Manchester.
One person commented saying: "Posh from levenshulme?? They obviously ain’t heard me speak then!"
Another reader added: "Astonishing findings."
