Where houses are selling for £125,000 under the asking price

With buyers and sellers united in their uncertainty about the future of the property market, house prices have been in stasis for months.

But when deals are done, on average things are on the side of the buyer, figures from Zoopla show.

When it looked at the gap between final sale prices and what homes were first listed for, Zoopla found the average buyer is negotiating £8,000 - or 3.7% - off.

However, in parts of the country things were far worse - with 5 towns outside London seeing discounts of more than double that on average.

Inside London things are bad - with some areas seeing people get average discounts well over £100,000 off asking prices in the past year.

At the other end of the scale Zoopla found a few places where buyers actually got what they asked for.

Zoopla spokeswoman Laura Howard said: "In three towns - Driffield, Dronfield and Salford - there was no difference at all between initial listing prices and selling price."

In London, sellers Waltham got closest to achieving their asking prices - with buyers getting 2.1%, or £10,000, off on average.

At the other end of the scale, Camden saw the biggest percentage discount at 9% but it was Kensington that had the largest pound-amount knocked off prices at £125,000.

Outside of London the town of Mountain Ash in Wales saw the biggest percentage discount at 8.5% - or £6,500.
