'Where has summer gone?' Londoners bemoan the awful weather as torrential rain sweeps capital

Wet and miserable conditions are sweeping the capital again on Thursday, leaving Londoners moaning about the weather.

The capital sweltered during a record-setting heatwave last month - May 26 become the hottest day in May on record with 35.1C measured at Kew Gardens.

But as May turned to June, London has seen day after day of wind and rain.

Some have had enough, with many taking to social media to complain and pray for a return of sunny skies.

One X user wrote: “I thought I was arriving in a warm summer London. Turns out British summer is still in beta testing.

“It’s bloody cold and it’s raining. London welcomed me back with grey skies, cold wind and a reminder that British summer is mostly a rumour. Who approved this weather update?”

Another wrote: “Heavy rain in London. Where has summer gone?”, while one person said: “London weather is so miserable, how is it cold, raining and grey in June?”

A fourth person said: “Gosh would this rain just stop already. How am I supposed to show off my French pedicure when it's raining and cold all the time. Hope that heatwave we had in May wasn't ‘summer’.”

Another commenter had their fingers crossed for improved weather at the upcoming Harry Styles concert this weekend.

They wrote: “I really hope Harry brings some hot weather to London cause there is no way I'm gonna wear a mini skirt in the p***ing rain.”

Tennis fans hoping to catch some of the Queen’s Club Championships were also bemoaning the drizzle which regularly stopped play.

One commenter wrote: “The rain in London is insane. GO AWAY.”

Thankfully, the outlook for the next few days is much improved.

According to the Met Office, Friday may have a few drizzly outbreaks, but the capital should be mostly dry.

And the weekend should stay dry too, with warmer, sunny weather hopefully putting a smile back on people’s faces.
