Where flavour and fitness meet

Looking for some healthy sweet treats during the nation's meat-free season?

Then you may want to stop by Exhibit Parfait, a miniature café on the upper floor of the multilabel clothing store, Exhibit Space, between Thong Lor 15 and 17.

An inspiring venture by a group of young fashion-conscious entrepreneurs who are into working out and healthy diets, the 10-seater -- where flavour and fitness meet -- offers a small selection of refreshment that centres on superfoods.

Expect to find here ingredients like acai berry (the black-purple fruit of Latin America's swamp palm), goji berry, chia seeds, quinoa, kale, spirulina and cacao.

Of the small-sized menu, best-selling is Acai Bowl (245 baht).

Thick purée of acai berries and mixed berries came topped with fresh slices of banana, strawberries, chia seeds, toasted coconut chips, a dollop of peanut butter, house-made granola, dried fruits, coconut flakes and a sprinkle of cinnamon. The velvety sweet, fruity and crunchy treat proved as much taste-buds-pleasing as it was stomach filling.

You may want to try the Mango Passion Bowl (220 baht), which features an aromatic, creamy and slightly tangy blend of ripe mango and passion fruit with fresh passion fruit, chunks of kiwi, blueberries and flaky granola.

The café has a few options of house-made icy treats also claimed to be healthy. In a heart-shape block, they range from sherbet to yoghurt and almond milk-based varieties (165 baht each). Flavours include spirulina and lime, almond milk and quinoa flakes, goji berry and cacao and yoghurt and butterfly pea.

Despite its muddy green hue, the spirulina and lime is most popular and proved to taste best.

The sherbet block offered a subtle blend of refreshing lime zest and slightly earthy taste of sea algae. The tangy delicacy is complemented marvellously by diced fresh strawberries, toasted quinoa grains and coconut flakes, and served on a bed of pastel blue granola tinted with butterfly pea essence.

The almond milk and quinoa flakes option, which comes with brownie crisps, roasted whole almond and coconut flakes, provided a milder taste. A selection of cakes (non-vegan), cocktails and cold-press juices also are available.

Exhibit Parfait opens daily, 10.30am-7pm. It is located between Thong Lor 15 and 17. For more information, call 02-185-2673.
