As of July 31, millions of people face tougher lockdown restrictions just weeks after major measures were eased in England.
On Thursday night it was announced by health secretary Matt Hancock that Greater Manchester and parts of east Lancashire and West Yorkshire will be banned from meeting each other inside their homes or in gardens following a spike in coronavirus cases.
He said that "households gathering and not abiding by the social distancing rules" was a reason for the stricter rules and it was in order to "keep the country safe".
The new measures therefore prevents members of two different households from mixing in pubs, restaurants and other hospitality venues.
However, shops and hospitality venues do not need to close down like at the start of the UK-wide lockdown.
This is therefore affecting all 10 boroughs in Greater Manchester as well as other northern areas.

Greater Manchester:
- City of Manchester
- Trafford
- Stockport
- Oldham
- Bury
- Wigan
- Bolton
- Tameside
- Rochdale
- Salford

Lancashire:
- Blackburn with Darwen
- Burnley
- Hyndburn
- Pendle
- Rossendale
West Yorkshire:
- Bradford
- Calderdale
- Kirklees
There has been some confusion as to whether some areas, such as Macclesfield and Altrincham, fall under the new restrictions.
Altrincham is part of Trafford and is subject to the new rules whereas Macclesfield is part of Cheshire and therefore do not face the same restrictions.
