Where Emmerdale fans have seen private investigator before including another soap

Emmerdale fans were left trying to work out the identity of a new character on the ITV soap this week.

The mystery man was seen following and taking photographs of Nicola and Jimmy King, in a sinister twist.

On Wednesday, it was confirmed who the man was - as viewers also learned of his secret link to another character on the show.

Judging by his cryptic conversation, and his role listed in the show's end credits, the newcomer is a private investigator working for Juliette.

Juliette is the mother of Jimmy's son Carl, and she recently returned to their lives out of the blue after years away from the village, wanting more contact with her son.

Emmerdale appeared to confirm Juliette had hired a private investigator with actor Tom Colley playing the role (ITV)

Those tuning into the latest episode and witnessing the mystery new plot may have been wondering who plays the newcomer, as he is a familiar face.

Actor Tom Colley is playing the investigator, while his full involvement in the plot is not yet clear.

Tom is no stranger to soap land, as he's starred in another soap pretty recently - and he certainly caused some drama.

He was in EastEnders in 2019 as Midge, the man who kidnapped Louise Mitchell and beat up Keanu Taylor.

Midge ended up having quite the showdown with Walford legend Phil Mitchell, and he was working for gangster Danny Hardcastle.

Actor Tom has appeared in other top shows too including Call the Midwife and Netflix hit Sex Education.

The actor even appeared in Hollywood hit Maleficent: Mistress of Evil starring Angelina Jolie, which was released in 2019.

Viewers of BBC One hit The Capture may also recognise him as he played an operator on the show in the same year.

It's not yet confirmed how long the investigator will be in the Dales for, and what exactly he and Juliette have planned.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
