Where Emmerdale fans have seen Graham Foster murder detective DI Dent before

Emmerdale fans may recognise new police detective DI Dent on the ITV soap, as she investigates Graham Foster's murder.

She and her colleagues aren't doing a very good job considering they've arrested Marlon Dingle for the crime, as the real killer, Pierce Harris, remains at large.

DI Dent is played by actress Linda Armstrong, and there's a big reason you might recognise her.

She even had a link to the show already, with an Emmerdale actress having crossed paths with her on a former ITV series.

Linda played Sister Brigid on Heartbeat spin-off The Royal between 2003 and 2011.

She starred alongside Vanessa Woodfield actress Michelle Hardwick on the series.

It's not a welcome reunion on screen, as Vanessa fears her fiancée Charity Dingle will be in trouble, if DI Dent suspects her as the killer.

But those viewers who didn't watch The Royal may still recognise actress Linda from other roles on big TV shows.

In fact, Linda has starred in two other rival soaps - both EastEnders and Coronation Street .

She played a Prosecution Barrister in 2018 on Corrie, and over in Walford she starred as a Duty Solicitor in 2018.

As well as appearing in The Royal, she played the same character in sister show Heartbeat in 2003.

Other roles include appearances in Doctors, four different roles in Casualty, A Touch of Frost and The Bill.

It's not known how long she will be on the soap for, or when Marlon's innocence will be proven.

No one knows yet that Pierce is back in the village, let alone he killed Graham.

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
