Where Emmerdale fans have seen DI Malone before - and actor Mark Womack's famous wife

Emmerdale airs dramatic scenes for Will Taylor next week, as DI Malone debuts on the ITV soap.

It's said he has a shady past, while the character heads to the Dales to grill Will over the recent shooting.

Viewers will soon learn more about the corrupt detective, and why Will is so fearful of him.

Those fans who have seen the spoiler pictures and will be tuning in next week may recognise the actor who plays the newcomer.

DI Malone is played by Mark Womack, and he's no stranger to the telly.

Not only that, but the actor also has a very famous wife who will be recognisable to soap fans.

Mark has been married to Samantha Womack since 2009.

Fans may recall Sam played EastEnders favourite Ronnie Mitchell, until the character was killed off in 2017.

While Mark hasn't been in soaps before, he has starred in a number of well known TV shows.

Back in 1994 and 1996, he played two brief roles on ITV's The Bill.

After that, he starred in fellow ITV drama Heartbeat and other telly roles.

Other credits include Judge John Deed, Casualty and New Tricks.

There's more too, with Mark having been in Silent Witness, Moving On, Babylon and most recently Vera.

His latest role sees him as DI Malone, investigating the recent shooting of Nate Robinson in the Dales.

That said, it's clear there's more to the character than meets the eye.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
