Where does USA TODAY rank Justin Fields on its top 50 players in the 2021 NFL draft

Can you feel it?

We’re just a few days away from the 2021 NFL draft, and the news on Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields keeps getting zanier and zanier by the day. The latest news has the San Francisco 49ers reportedly moving away from Fields and focusing on two other quarterbacks, Mac Jones of Alabama, and Trey Lance of North Dakota State.

Umm, OK.

But never fear Buckeye fans, Fields will get his day in the sun, and one way or another, he’s going to have an opportunity to shut down all the naysayers and criticism of his game. And yeah, we like his chances.

But just because there appears to be a free fall of Fields’ draft stock or whether it’s all a smokescreen to make other teams move off of him, he’s still one whale of a prospect in this class. In fact, according to USA TODAY’s top 50 NFL draft prospects (subscription required), he’s right up near the top. So, what does Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz say about the Buckeye QB?

NEXT … Where USA TODAY has Justin Fields ranked

Justin Fields – No. 5 overall prospect

Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields (1) heads to the locker room following the Buckeyes’ 22-10 victory against the Northwestern Wildcats during the Big Ten Championship football game on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.Cfb Big Ten Championship

What Middlehurst-Schartz says

“All of the questioning on his processing has overshadowed the other ways in which the 6-3, 227-pound quarterback meets or exceeds the criteria of a franchise passer. His pinpoint accuracy is unmatched in this class, and he’s remarkably efficient when on schedule. If Fields shakes the narrative about the speed of his decision-making, he could make a lot of teams regret passing on him.”
Well, there’s really nothing more to say about the most talked about prospect in this entire class. Nothing surprises us anymore, and the good news is that we’ll find out exactly where the former Heisman finalist will set up his career on Thursday.
