Where did the Titans land in ESPN’s future power rankings?

It’s been a long time since the Tennessee Titans did well in the areas of offseason projections and rankings.

Needless to say, the predictions made by analysts about the team ahead of the 2019 season have mostly been negative.

ESPN recently released a future power rankings article for all 32 NFL teams for the next three years.

The Titans were listed at No. 19 overall on the list.

This placed them third in the AFC South, ahead of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Why was the team ranked here?

Well, starting quarterback Marcus Mariota and the circumstances he’s under have a lot to do with it.

“But the question that hovers over the franchise is whether Marcus Mariota is the long-term answer at quarterback,” the article read. “He enters the final year of his rookie contract and must make strides. He has unique qualities and outstanding football character, but must be more consistent and prolific as a passer. If Mariota steadies his play, not only will he cash in with a lucrative new deal from the Titans, but this team’s future outlook will be quite favorable.”

Equipped with a whole new set of weapons acquired by general manager Jon Robinson this offseason, and a revamped offensive line, Mariota has been put in prime position to prove his worth.

He’ll have a chance to do just that as the Titans kick off the regular season against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 8.
